Sorrento

Designed for the beautiful city of Sorrento in Italy, this brand identity was one of my first projects that allowed me to discover my love for typography within the art of design. Sorrento is known for it’s delicious citrus fruits and that is why I chose to incorporate them into the various marks designed. I also wanted to highlight the growth and expansion of the city which is why I chose to have the marks smaller in the corner of my graphics.

The Brand Marks

Initially this project started out with just one logo to represent the city of Sorrento as featured here. However, as time went on, I chose to expand this because I had enjoyed creating it so much. I chose to go with a very classic yet playful serif typeface, and I manipulated the “O”s within the word Sorrento. I did this because I wanted to have a completely typographic mark that still played homage to the fruits grown in the city.

I created the other brand marks in a similar manner to the original one, but I chose to add a submark that combined the typographic with fruit illustrations inspired by the original design. I also sought to design brand icons as well as filled in version of the marks.

The Patterns

The brand patterns were designed by utilizing the citrus fruits created within the original logo. I chose the do a simple repeating design alternating between the lemon and the orange. Much like with the brand marks, I did various versions of the pattern. These consisted of outlines, filled in, colored, and solid black.
