Bloomd

Custom crafted for a local fibers artisan and plant seller, Bloomd showcases the intersection between art and nature. Bloomd is a company that sells weavings and other various tapestries. The art of weaving is incredibly organic just like that of a growing plant. Each one is unique and no two will ever look exactly the same no matter how hard you try.

The Primary Mark

My goal with the ‘bloomd’ design was to create something that reflected nature and weaving. So, I used brackets to emulate the loom structure. I had the bowl of the b represent yarn going around the warp string as well as a stem starting to unfurl. I felt this truly showcased the vastly different fields that the artist chose to combine in her business. I wanted to create symmetry in the marks without them looking stark and corporate.

The Combined Mark

As I had worked so hard on the B within the primary mark, I knew I wanted to find other ways to highlight this element through the brand identity. So for the combined mark, I chose to wrap the loom brackets around the B and place a more simplified version of the typographic mark next to it. I also did a vertical, stacked orientation of this particular design. I wanted to provide the artist with a variety of designs because she was selling an assorted style of products within her business. I knew that one mark would simply not be enough.

The Weavings

The creator of Bloomd strives to create freeform, whimsical fiber works of art. She creates them with a variety of materials such as ribbon, yarn, roving, rope, and lace. Even though she makes some of them in pairs of two, they are always totally original and one of a kind. You will not see her create the same piece more than once which is why her work is so high sought after.
