This project is very near and dear to my heart because it is a personal brand identity for my sister. She is an incredibly talented teacher, hand letterer, painter, and woman of God. Everyday she pushes herself to be the best version of herself and I really wanted this brand identity to represent that. I chose to focus on the hand lettering aspect of her passions while creating the logos as well as some of the paintings she has created.

The Primary Mark

No one design could ever fully encapsulate my sister and the talents that she has been blessed with as well as the ones she’s worked so hard for, but I think this primary mark is pretty close to achieving that. I chose a really customized typeface that started out as a basic serif typeface. I removed some of the serifs and added line work to emulate the look of a pen drawing through the letters. I know as a hand letterer, some people may expect her to use that for her brand. However, we agreed that something more simplistic would be more suitable in this case and then she could experiment more through color and gradients.

The Brand Pattern

Due to the fact that my sister sometimes sells her products and sends them out to people, I wanted to create a fun pattern for her than she could get printed on tissue paper, mailers, cards, etc. I chose to incorporate a monogram and flowers that she drew herself. This allowed the hand lettering aspect to come into play for her brand without being the main focus and taking away from all of her other skillsets.
